A patched up Meridian with just three players who started last week took on Greenways at the lane. The team assembled in the last three days took the lead on 23 mins. Kelvin Bakare Kicked the ball high over his head into the area and Manny Ikeocha won the header to loop into over the keeper and in. The lead lasted just two minutes as Greenways pressed down the right , a poor clearance was picked up on the edge of the area and running into the area skipped past a weak challenge and shot high into the net. A poor half flew by but not before Greenways added a second on 38 minutes. HT 1-2.
Poor defending again was MVP's undoing another weak clearance and allowing a Greenways player to have time to bring the ball down skip a challenge and fire into the top corner to make it 3-1. (55)To their credit MVP hit straight back , two minutes later Matt Newton playing a quick one two and bursting through on goal, applied a neat finish. Meridian looked for an equaliser but lacked the quality around the area to produce clear chances. Greenways rarely threatened and the newly assembled squad looked the better team. A lack of subs meant there was no fresh legs to inject hope of an equaliser. The game fizzled out and MVP lose yet another home game and slump ever closer to the relegation zone. Opportunity greatly missed. With Midweek games in the next two weeks there is not the chance to have a training session with the the new team and they will have to learn fast or Meridians season will descend into a dramatic colapse.
