Another chance for new players to show what they are made of to the Meridian Management!

Another friendly for the new budding players wishing to make their mark into the Meridian FC squad against new opposition today Jayten FC.

The management team were not concerned with the result of this game only to see how the players have developed and progressed with the training sessions received over the past one month.

Meridian FC again started with players that are new to the club and it was clear to see that the presence of the opposition was a telling factor in the first half.

Meridian with a stand in temporary goalkeeper (outfield player) were always going to be tested and it was clearly evident that Jayten FC were attacking at pace and unleashing several shots to unsettle the Meridian goalkeeper.

Meridian tried to play the short passing game which did prove difficult for the opposition to break down, but with this came mistakes by several players which created the opposition’s first & second goals.

The first was a fantastic strike from 25 yards on the left which flew straight into the top left Meridian’s goal and the second arrived soon after when another mistake was made from the midfield and the ball slotted in comfortably.

At the break management made changes including replacing the goalkeeper and basics where requested to be implemented.

The management team were very pleased with the players who reacted to the instructions given very well. Structure, team shape and much improved movement and passing of the ball was a pleasure to watch.

The opposition now started to struggle with Meridian creating several chances only to be thwarted by our own downfall by losing the ball cheaply up front and the saves from the goalkeeper.

The opposition's third goal came against the run of play with a long hopeful ball to which the Meridian left back failed to deal with.

This game was again about learning & studying the Meridian players, there were plenty of positives in the second half.

The management stated there is not a clear cut decision to select any player yet for the full squad but certain players will have to improve considerably in order to finally make the cut next week.

The game on Saturday against Charlton Athletic Community will be a fine test for all players and a definite improve performance is required.
