FITTING END TO THE SEASON !!

Finally it came down to the last fixture of the season with Meridian FC opponents Bearsted FC visiting today.

Meridian’s good performances of late were to be continued has the squad showed the right focus & attitude even though both teams were playing for nothing today.

Meridian immediately took control of the game from the start and were soon one goal to the good when Azeez Rasheed collected the ball in midfield by passing his marker and in turn slotted a cool pass for Guy Munianga in space and with no hesitation assisted in the telling pass for Alex Wasolua to slot a confident ball into the back of the goal 1-0.

The away side to their credit kept applying themselves with chances created but poor finishing was to let them down. Soon on the 19th minute an error from Meridian in defence allowed the opposition to equalise 1-1.

Despite the setback, Meridian grew with confidence and it was again the assist from Guy Munianga to Alex Wasolua on the 26th minute where the meridian midfield competed for the ball did the home side extend their lead to 2-1.

At the break strategy and change of personnel, Meridian looked to change the game with the win required too see a fitting end to the season.

Meridian started where they left off in the first half with good patterns of play and possession this was soon to be in evident on the 60th minute where the opposition where dispossessed in their own third and the resulting reaction of play see the very experienced Gurdy Tamna compose and slot the ball over the on coming goalkeeper 3-1.

The opposition found it hard to contain Meridian and errors started to creep into their play has on the 75 minute Guy Munianga capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake and with no hesitation converted his opportunity 4-1.

Meridian growing with an ever degree of confidence soon were brought down to earth in one of the oppositions rare forward play conceding another error for them to score on the 82nd minute 4-2.

It was not long as on the 84th minute Temitope Odunfa scored soon after and another assist from Guy Munianga 5-2.

So it was left to the end on the 89th minute and fittingly so where Suliman Charm collected the ball after good pressing from Meridian, assisted “you got it Guy Munianga” for his 2nd of the game and deservedly so finishing this final fixture 6-2.

Meridian deserved this performance and result very much and it was all down to the attitude and focus that the squad had shown today even with certain key members absent.

Meridian have learned and developed in this first inaugural season in the Kent Invicta Football League and will look to improve all aspects of the club on and off the pitch for the forthcoming season.

The club wishes to thank all involved in making this a successful progressive season for the future of Meridian Football Club as we all strive to achieve better & much higher targets.
