Great Team Performance !

Meridian looked to improve and continue the positive performances of the past few weeks with today’s away trip to Woodstock Park FC.

The home side started with a purpose and direct football to which Meridian dealt and contained very well on a rain dampened day.

Meridian kept to the game plan with breaking down the opposition well and good possession with passing football was the key to the first goal.

After good defensive & midfield work the break came on the 14 minute on Meridian’s left with a positive pass from Alex Wasolua who in turn slotted in Guy Munianaga and he assisted in Wayon Anderson to smoothly pass the opposition defence across the 18 yard box unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top right of the goal 0-1.

Credit to the opposition as they did not give up the equaliser, but time and again the good football of Meridian was the key for the numerous chances that were created only for poor finishing which was not the order of the day.

After the break Meridian knew the home side would be more aggressive in their play. This was comfortably dealt with and it was Meridian who struck again on the 55 minute with Wayon Anderson collecting the ball from Guy Munianga as he had beaten the defensive tackles and only thwarted by the home keeper has he saved the shot with the ball falling centrally outside the 18 yard box Guy Munianga with no hesitation collected and shot on the turn with a superb strike which went in over the keeper and goal 0-2.

Meridian not getting carried away kept their heads and only a minor opportunity of a corner given to Woodstock did they score from on the 60th minute 1-2.

The game was now on has Woodstock pushed and changed their shape, but Meridian reeling from a very poor goal conceded stepped up and tremendous work rate and endeavour was too much for the home side has another break on Meridian’s right by Guy Munianga who beat everything thrown at him, composed himself delivering the telling ball to the centre of the penalty area where Alex Wasolua made no mistake even though he had plenty to do slotted the third goal with conviction on the 70th minute 1-3.

Changes made further strengthened Meridian’s play with all three changes making positive contribution for the result that was well deserved for a very good team performance.

Meridian continue forward and focus on their next fixture away to Rusthall FC on Saturday 21st April 2012 KO 3pm.
