Element of Quality Seals Win!

Meridian reeling from the last fixture knew they had to prove and show a level of professionalism lifting their performance in this fixture to another level.

Although the opponents Lydd Town might have looked at this fixture in a different light it was Lydd that showed the desire and eagerness for the result in this game in the first half.

Meridian acomplished to play to their strenghts with team formation and players changing due to work committments but this did not stop the visitors going in front on the 21st min due to poor decision making and concentration with a very soft goal, 0-1.

At the half way point strong words sent out by the management got the reaction Meridian needed to pursue the win in this home game.

A great debut from Ikomi Oti in midfield was a highlight throughout and the introduction of Alex Wasolua brought instant dividends as he tore into the visitors, unsettling their defense numerous times.

The hard work, determination and discipline of all the players including Guy Munianga that started to change the game pressing forward and creating chance after chance.

It was not until the 74 minute when Alex Wasolua crossed from Meridian's left into the 18 yard area which got a bit of luck bouncing off the back of the defenders head and was instantly despatched with great technique on the volley into the net by Temitope Odunfa on his return to the side, goalkeeper no chance, 1-1.

Meridian knew this game was a must win and got the bit between the teeth immediately sensing another goal which incidently came on the 77 minute with a ball collected by Guy Munianga on the left who in turn went at the the Lydd defense by passing 3 players and unleashed a quality unstoppable shot from 20 yards into the top right corner with the goalkeeper helpless, 2-1.

This was no more than Meridian deserved as the game finished with a win, and the management very pleased with the reaction from all involved to achieve this goal.

Meridian now look forward to their away quarter final fixture in the Erith Hospital's Charity Cup on the 17th December 2011 KO 1.30PM
to Viewpoint FC.
