Point Deserved! Extreme Work Ethic Not Rewarded

After good performances in the last few games and beginning to show consistency Meridian took the long road to Bearsted FC today’s opposition, with several key personal out Meridian knew today would be a test.

Credit to the home side, who started the better of the two but it was Meridian’s harassing of the ball in key area’s that really kept Bearsted at bay.

There was geat work from Meridian’s midfield with Yovonne Otto covering every blade of grass and guy Munianga so solid in central midfield a tough cooky to crack as the home side found out.

Meridian created a few clear cut chances after breaking down Bearsted only to be thwarted by the goalkeeper who kept their sheet clean.

It was only around the 30 minute when a mistake on Meridian’s right side gave a chance for a hopeful cross from Bearsted left midfield into the far post did they score. Meridian did not deserve to be down 1-0 at the break.

Meridian need true character for the second half and this was imminent in the composed football that was beginning to show has the home side struggled with Meridian’s ball movment.

On the stroke of 66 minutes Guy Munianga wins the ball and in turn then moves the ball to Otto and for the assist when he slots in Alex Wasolua with a well taken goal, 1-1.

Meridian worked extremely hard to achieve the equaliser and now had the bit between the teeth and pushed, time and again Meridian used the ball very well causing the home side problems and in turn chances which were saved by the goalkeeper.

It was only in the 80 minute when a long ball into the corner was collected by the Bearsted forward who incidentally skipped pass several players ball watching and unleashed a hard drive only to be saved by goalkeeper Kelm Strickland and the resulting rebound tapped in by Bearsted, 2-1.

Meridian worked extremely hard and deserved a point out of this game at the minimum, but it was not to be has Bearsted FC finally won their first game in 8.

Credit to the home side and a huge thank you to the committee of Bearsted FC for their hospitality after the match for making Meridian FC feel warmly welcomed!

There have been many positives not only from this game but from the past few performances which will be carried forward into Meridian’s next game away to Hollands & Blair FC.
