Opposition happy with smash & grab and ruin Meridian's day!

Knowing a result should have been achieved against their last opponents Meridian FC looked to correct this in today’s home fixture against Seven Acre & Sidcup FC (SASFC).

Meridian started the slower of the two teams today and again it was a quick wake up call for the team going down 0-1 on the 6 minute due to an error made from a set piece.

Meridian started to assert themselves but still lacked that certain commanding presence on the pitch that they were accustomed.

This was evident in SASFC second goal on the 19 minute with Meridian attacking and losing the ball in the final third which was cleared with a long punt into no man’s land only to fall at the feet of the opposition striker who took his chance well 0-2.

This need not be a game where Meridian were trailing if all players showed the belief and passion, which eventually came in the last 15 minutes of the first half.

Meridian started to play and move well creating several chances. The opposition being very wary of Meridian’s football knew they had to be at their best.

It was only in the 42nd minute when Wayon Anderson was brought down PENALTY awarded.

Yovonne Otto stepped up took the spot kick with confidence but SAVE, only for the penalty to be taken again as the goalkeeper moved off the line before it was taken along with several opposition players entering the penalty box. Again Otto this time despatched the goal & SAVE but the rebound was stuck away with purpose.

This was no more than Meridian deserved in the first half which was a fair reflection on the half.

Second half started without doubt much better and from the first whistle Meridian took the game to SASFC.

The movement and passing returned to Meridian’s game and SASFC found it very difficult to break down. Chances were plentiful and only for the opposition keeper did SASFC keep their lead as Meridian’s goalkeeper was a standing spectator for most of the 2nd half.

A smash & grab from SASFC to which they wil accept with pleasure, but Meridian will loathe this day due to missed chances and must quickly get back on track with their next game with a WIN!

Meridian FC Man of Match Guy Munianga great midfield display and composure.
