A Great Disciplined Performance Seals The Win!

With another away day out this time to Orpington FC, Meridian’s opponents on a crucial day for both clubs.

Meridian knew that today was not a day to be complacent with Orpington trying to achieve their first points of the season and Meridian making the most of their game in hand and keeping with the pack in the league table.

It was Orpington who started the brighter as Meridian suffered a very early goal within the first 11 minutes with a poorly defended cross only for the opposition to volley home an unopposed shot, 1-0.

It was only then the alarm clock sounded and within minutes of the retake fluent passing from Meridian in midfield from Jordan Mctigue with a neat through ball to Wayon Anderson allowed for composed finishing as he slotted the ball away from the keeper, 1-1.

Meridian took the ball by the horns and never looked back as constant pressure unsettled the home side, with good defending from the defence allowed for the game to flow.

Meridian midfielder Ali Musa eventually got onto the score sheet with a well delivered cross from Alex Wasolua on the 19 minute, 1-2.

The opposition tried to keep their game plan but Meridian were not going to be put off as good passing and shape proved for the third goal this time Ali Musa assisting with a flick on at the near post and Jordan Mctigue getting his first goal of the season on the 24 minute, 1-3.

Chances were plenty full with Wayon Anderson, and without doubt the home side goalkeeper kept them in the game at half time.

Orpington came at Meridian as they expected, but a good solid defensive performance in the first 20 minutes was the key not to concede.

To their credit Orpington did manage some goal scoring opportunities but only to be thwarted by Meridian’s goalkeeper Isaac Ige with two top draw saves.

Meridian finally sealed the game with a fluent move and this time the midfield out smarted the opposition defence with a composed set ball back to Jordan Mctigue who made no mistake with his second of the game, 1-4.

Many chances came and went for Meridian and on another day it would be safe to say that the score line would have been higher if it was not for some disappointing finishing and fine saves from the opposition goalkeeper.

After the fixture Meridian's management stated that they were pleased the way the team applied itself and the work rate shown by all players working together.

Meridian now take a break from league duties and look forward to the Kent Invicta League Cup tie with their away opponents Hollands & Blair on the 17th September 2011, KO 3PM.
