Improving Meridian Earn Draw At Lydd !

Today was a seaside trip down to Lydd Town FC with a very early start for the long journey.

Welcomed by Lydd Town FC, Meridian looked for a positive result from this fixture with much required points.

Meridian again prepared and focus well before the match, the game started with Lydd coming out of the blocks first and within five minutes the home team scored with a very poor goal conceded.

Meridian eventually started to wake up and assert themselves with better defensive display thereafter.

Lydd tried with their aerial ability to out muscle meridian constantly but again with this form of play there was always going to be space vacated to which Meridian took great advantage of.

This was to be proven time and again has the home team were caught out only for their goalkeeper to make several saves and some below par shooting from Meridian.

It was not until the 17 minute when Gassimu Jalloh collected the ball from deep in his own half and ran the half of the pitch out manoeuvring the opposition at will and threading a through ball to Temitope Odunfa who slotted his shot away but hotly disputed by the home team only then ruled by the linesman that the whole ball had crossed the line, 1-1.

Meridian was now growing with confidence applying more pressure with Lydd on the back foot looking very nervous when Meridian had the ball and on every attack.

This was just so on the 36 minute when a greatly crafted pass from Cristhian Ibarra through to Wayon Anderson beat the opposition defence to slot his shot with precision, 2-1.

Meridian deservedly in front at half time were pleased with the first half performance abut required more in the second half.

Lydd came at Meridian in the second half with a changed formation and players. Meridian adapted well and kept their focus.

Chances came for Meridian only to be thwarted by either the goalkeeper or poor finishing.

Meridian looked for the next goal when it presented itself but an error on Meridian’s right midfield allowed Lydd to attack and a great converted shot by the home team forward levelled the score line, 2-2.

Lydd pushed and soon after created only one of their other few chances with a cross from the right met by a good header and an even better save from Meridian’s goalkeeper Isaac Ige pushing it over the cross bar.

Another great save from Isaac right in the last minute was great to see as the game was level at full time.

Meridian rated this game as 2 points dropped, but pleased performances are improving and with players coming back from injuries and vacation it looks a brighter future.
