Meridian FC required a much improved performance compared to their last dismal outing to Bly Spartans FC.
Today’s bank holiday opponents and rivals Bridon Ropes FC come into this game with steady results.
Both teams started off with a little caution playing good neat football. Meridian started to assert themselves well keeping good shape and focus on the job at hand. Chances were few and far between in the first half as both sides cancelled each other out, but still played the right entertaining football.
Meridian looked for the chances with good creativity but soon enough both teams knew the first goal scored would be the decided in this match.
Good performance from the Meridian defence was pleasing to the eye with a changed formation.
It was only in the 76 minute when a rare mistake made cost Meridian their first goal from a cross on Meridian’s right side with poor concentration, 0-1 Bridon.
Meridian reeling from this pushed and another lapse of concentration again let in another goal 9 minutes later, 0-2.
Meridian made changes and never gave up as the score line did reflect the game performance.
On the 88 minute a composed collected ball from Spencer Illinge in defence put a great pass 40 yards for Wayon Anderson to assist with a neatly crafted flick onto Temitope Odunfa who collected and out smarted the opposition defence with great work slotting the ball bottom left of the oncoming goalkeeper.
The game was a disappointment as Meridian deserved something from this game and on reflection a draw would have been a fair result.
Much better performance and attitude shown today which will bode well for Meridian’s next fixture to Lydd Town FC.
