Meridian undone with a good performance!!

After several weeks of hard pre-season work the first friendly is a match very much on every players lips.

Meridian FC welcome the opposition today Highfield Rovers FC to the clubs replacement venue The Bexley Business Academy, Erith Kent.
The management today have left many of the existing squad out of today’s fixture to analyse the new crop of promising young individuals that look to impress and improve.

The game started with the right combination of passing & control from all players. The opposition found it hard to contain Meridian’s football and again it was evident to see that certain players adapted to different positions very well.

With continuous formation changes the players handled very well and only when Meridian relaxed the chances on goal came with shots on target but were unable to convert.

Meridian went a goal behind with a needless foul on the left and with a deep cross from the opposition to the far post Highfield bundled the ball over the line for the first against the run of play. The second goal came from poor concentration and pass allowing Highfield Rovers to slot the ball low beyond the goalkeeper.

Plenty said at half time by the management team with a few changes Meridian FC looked to assert once again, but within 10 minutes of the restart found themselves three down.

Meridian FC pushed on with good play through the midfield through Kyle Burt who delivered a telling assisted ball to Alex Wasloua who on turn lost his marker and converted a super crafted move and goal.

It was not to be the win that Meridian FC were looking for but we congratulate Highfield Rovers FC in their first ever win over Meridian for many, many years.

A further thank you goes to the chairman who stepped in as replacement goalkeeper at the very last minute due to unforeseen cirumstances.

Conclusion: Meridian FC enjoyed this friendly fixture, there were many plus points that came from this game and obviously some negative also. However, we are here to iron out issues and work has a team as it was a great eye opener for all that participated.
