Pre-Season action plan see first objective overcome!!

It was a day of great joy as Meridian FC played their first friendly game at home on the newly maintained pitch.

Great credit must be given to the ground staff of the Meridian Sports & Social Club to bring the pitch up to a very high standard.
Meridian took great pride on the pitch with a newly formed line up from the last fixture, this see young hopefuls trying to impress and push for places in the senior squad.

Meridian FC welcomed Lanes End FC from the Kent County Football League who was very keen for this fixture and arriving extra early.

Both teams took a little time to settle in their game with good attacking play from the opposition who looked fresh but it was Meridian who posed the threat in their formation and game plan.

Meridian moved the ball with precision and calm creating a few chances, but both teams struggled to find any real threat in the first half.

Several changes made in the first half see a variety of players tried in different positions, the management team see plenty of positives in their analysis of personnel.

At the break changes again were made with the game plan now to up the tempo by Meridian. This proved to be the key element as the passing and control of the game became evident immediately with crisp passing and creativity from the Meridian midfield playing out wide left then returning to the central position with the ball attacking the opposition goal as then a neat ball to Alex Wasloua on the right who took the ball with ease pass his defending player then unleashing a clean crisp shot low & hard to the keepers left.

Meridian deserving their lead was only strengthened again by another quick goal from that man Alex Wasloua who again beat his marker down the right and getting his shot off by rifling it into the roof of the net.

At this time the opposition had no response to Meridian’s football has the team relaxed and moved with relative ease. With patience and communication the third goal was evitable as midfield Spencer Illinge picked up the ball in the midfield with superb passing & interplay through the middle of the park attacked towards the opposition goal as he skipped pass several dubious challenges from defenders and slot the ball to the right of the oncoming keeper with great composure.

Meridian kept going but the heat and pace eventually took its toll in the last ten minutes when the opposition created one of their few chances by breaking down Meridian’s right with lack of cover & communication Lanes End managed to slot the ball into the net.

Conclusion: This was a good fixture with a game that had everything that the management asked for. All players from both sides enjoyed this game which is the fundamental point here! With a little more work in areas Meridian FC are on the right road for the season ahead. Good work especially from defence & midfield together with all others that participated!
