This Topsy Turvy Season Continues.....

MVP’s topsy turvy season continued today with an excellent performance against a very determined Phoenix side. Chalk and cheese in comparison to our Bank Holiday blues against AC London….on to the action !

On what was finally a nice day (almost) MVP set about their opponents from the get go. With many players returning to the starting line up there was a much stronger look to the sky blues.

Only 11 minutes had elapsed when MVP’s fine early work paid dividends. From a punted through ball Oliver Mentessi chased down the ball. Beat his defender and calmly lofted a shot past the Phoenix keeper for 1-0. Just reward as we had pushed forward with intent up to this point. Literally straight from the restart Rocket man Chris McGinty almost doubled the lead but the keeper was to make one of his many fine saves throughout the afternoon. Stinging drives from Captain Dominic Elmes and Grant Brown were to also test their young keeper. Phoenix only had one real chance in the first half such was MVP’s control over the game. This came after a long throw into the box wasn’t cleared and the away skipper steered the ball over the bar. This would have been rough justice on us such was the dominance we had on proceedings.

HT - MVP 1 Phoenix 0

MVP continued in the same vein in the second half but Phoenix were to have more of the ball without really troubling the home back line. Assured defending by Matt Atkins and Jason Cook at CB really snuffed out anything they had to offer. Chris Weber and Stephen Munn the full backs were both also having good afternoons respectively.

It was MVP though who looked more likely to score. Phoenix had lost their young keeper to injury so they had to put the replacement in who was kept very busy with a succession of shots and corners to deal with. Grant Brown and Elms having the better shots of which the keeper done well to keep out.

MVP’s second goal came in the dying embers of the match when Brown swept home a low shot following excellent work on the right hand side from McGinty who cut the ball back excellently. This wrapped up the match and very shortly afterwards the game was brought to an end.

FT - MVP 2 Phoenix 0

Dimmo said beforehand that following Monday’s bad defeat that he had asked more of the players in this game. They paid him back with a good hard working display. Everyone will enjoy their weekend for sure..

Next up next Saturday 9/4/16 we face Glebe away who have slipped up of late so you never know we might just cause an upset.
