A Well Oiled Performance Brings The Rewards !

On what was ideal weather for deep sea fishermen somewhere in the North Sea. So far on what has been a topsy turvy campaign. Where one week we are excellent the next week not so…However this week we produced a good display against Rusthall to take home the three points. Please see a brief report of yesterday’s game.

Rainy conditions set in just after kick off on what was a cold blustery day the high winds though weren’t affecting the game too much at this early juncture. An early scare saw Rusthall volley just wide of Ashton’s right hand post. Then the goals began..Our first as a result of a poor back pass from the Rustics right back G Brown latched onto the ball and tried to lob the keeper who parried the ball into the path of our very own (Jamie Vardy) McGinty who swept home from close range. Number 2 came from an excellent G Brown corner the ball sped towards Captain Elms whose challenge led to an own goal to increase our lead. It was Elms who was to get our third when he volleyed home an excellent McGinty cross . 3-0 and we were coasting….Rusthall however kept plugging away and managed to reduce the deficit with a close range finish to make the score 3-1. Although the weather was borderline hurricane MVP were playing some good football and really should of extended their lead.

Half time MVP 3 Rusthall 1

Conditions hadn’t improved as the teams came out for the second half just very brief lulls in the rain gave the hardy supporters some respite!!! MVP lost McGinty early doors to a knee injury which forced him to retire early….Both sides produced a decent hardworking second half performance. There weren’t many goalmouth incidents to report as the game was really camped in the middle third of the pitch. Rusthall hadn’t given up the fight and were now competing much more than the first half. MVP were attacking well but just lacked that initial punch whilst approaching the Rustics goal. As the game was reaching its conclusion Ward on as a late sub went on a surging run down the right and sent in an inch perfect cross for Minott to drive home from 6 yards to make the score 4-1.

Full time MVP 4 Rusthall 1
