Games In Hand & Win Pushes MVP Up The Table !!

Midweek action again at the Stade MVP as we took on Crockenhill. It may of been very cold outside but the sky blues performance warmed up the MVP faithfull.

Honours were even for the first part of the game. Both defences were really on top restricting the attacking options of both sides to limited long range efforts. Crocks did get the ball into the home net but the close range effort was ruled out for offside. Crocks bench groaned in disdain at their strikers decision to square the ball rather than try his luck.

Dimmo picked a really offensive side to face Crocks with the attacking prowess of Grant Brown, with the fleet footed Adrian Brown and James Hawkins prowling each flank. Helped ably by the string hold up play of Dominic Elmes up top. MVP were closest to breaking the deadlock after we forced two good saves of the Crocks keeper firstly A Brown with a low shot tipped away. Then, G Brown having a shot blocked and cleared away. MVP then took the lead with the move of the match involving G Brown and Hawkins down the right hand side..Hawkins was slid through by Brown then he sent a superb cross into the on running Elmes who finished very well indeed 1-0.

MVP were showing a very resolute approach that was missing somewhat Saturday really scrapping for the ball…Weber and Shelton (an early replacement for Nathineal Ward) were really putting a shift in..Our back line were also dealing well with anything thrown at them. Pascal-Johnson and Atkins looking a strong pairing in the centre. Futher excellent chances fell to Elmes who curled one just wide of the mark after Jason Ward produced a fine run and cut back. A Brown also just firing over following neat work by G Brown.

HT MVP 1 Crockenhill 0

MVP came out the better team and following a passage of play where the ball was camped in the middle third it was the sky blues who almost doubled their advantage. Elmes hitting a piledriver which was somehow cleared then from the resulting clearance the ball came back in and G Brown had a close range effort blocked.

Crocks then created their best chance of the game where the ball was sent into the MVP box to roll unchallenged across the area with no striker on hand to apply any finishing touch….big let off for the home side.

Further efforts from G Brown and A Brown both saved well by the keeper. Then a double change from Dimmo A Brown and Elmes made way for Keenan Hante-Bobb and Tommy Leggatt. This paid almost instant dividends as the strong running Hante-Bobb unsettled the Crocks defence and a rash foul on him created the free kick where our second goal was to come from.

Again good delivery by Brown the ball was glanced onwards and struck the right hand post. As the ball came out and trickled along the goal line Hante-Bobb was on hand to prod the ball home from at least 2 inches for 2-0.

MVP saw the rest of the game out comfortably to register an excellent victory. There were some really strong performances throughout the team but Atkins gets the vote for MOM.

FT MVP 2 Crockenhill 0

MVP have now moved three places up the league to 13th on goal difference. We now face a difficult away game against the industrious Seven Acre at STC ground Thamesmead.

FlatCapSports will be there in association with Meridian VP to bring you all the action
