Draw Not The Order Of The Day !!

On a day where the league suffered many postponements MVP’s game was one exeption. With some games in hand MVP were Looking to get a valuable 3 points against basement side Lewisham Borough. However despite their best efforts it was to turn out honours even……..

MVP had the best early opening when the jet heeled Adrian Brown burst through following a long ball over the borough defence. His pace took him clear but he got his angles all wrong with an awkward attempt at goal. Play was camped in the middle third of the park as both sides struggled to pick any decisive passes. Ryan Minott was MVP ‘s most creative player making some good runs and trying to get the home teams engine room working. Ably supported by Darren Shelton who was putting in some excellent challenges. For Borough Daniel Jones was their shining light going at either flank of the MVP backline.

Another decent opportunity for MVP went begging when a Minott corner swept across the face of the borough goal. As the weather worsened the ref blew for half time. Score 0-0.

Lewisham were showing signs of much improved and started to get at MVP playing some good football. Jones forcing Lee Kidman into a terrific save with his feet. MVP were plugging away but were having a frustrating day. Lewisham then took the lead through Curtis Afflick who after another Jones raid fired home the loose ball from 12 yards to Kidman right. 0-1

MVP to their credit bounced back immediately and were to force a penalty when the Borough centre back was penalised for handball. Chris Mcdermott converted the kick to make the score 1-1. This seemed to galvanise MVP who then put Borough under sustained pressure. Then the lead was the home sides when Ryan Minott hit a free kick from the left hand side. As the ball came in it evaded everyone caught a deflectio n (i thinkoff a Borough defender) then it nestled in the bottom left hand corner for 2-1. Borough looked dead and buried as MVP went for the killer third goal. Minott hit a scorcher from some 25 yards which had Cox in the Borough keeper very concerned. Then MVP laid seige with Brown having two gild edge chances to make the game safe one he put wide to the right hand post the second a terrific save from Cox with his legs. Lewisham persevered and kept going. Their big sub Luqman Adesina forcing a terrific save from Kidman low to his left. Then in the dying embers Adesina was to earn Lewisham a point when he was slipped through the MVP defence and finished well to Kidmans left hand side.
2-2. There wasn’t enough time left on the clock for MVP and Mr Andrews blew for full time.

FT MVP 2 Lewisham Borough 2

MVP will rue their missed chances in these game as they had enough to win. But credit to Lewisham who battled gamely to come away with a point.

Next up for MVP a home game Tuesday night against Fleetdown United from the Kent County premier in the Hospital’s Charity Cup with a 745 kick off.

See you there
