A Positive End To The Season & Well Deserved !!

Finally the last day of the season arrives as all concerned are looking forward to a well-earned break in the summer and reconstruction begins.

There is a small matter of this game as Meridian buoyant from there Cup final victory looked to confirm their ever increasing good form against a newly looking Crockenhill FC.

With some players still feeling the effects of the final the players today were under no illusions of the magnitude of this game.

Meridian started brightly from the first whistle as immediately on the 4th minute great interplay on the left linked well from midfield slotted in Jamie Humphris who in turn neatly assisted Junior James who despatched with confidence, 1-0.

The visitors reacted almost immediately as defending error allowed their number 9 to achieve the equaliser with a good header between the Meridian defence, 1-1.

Thoughts from the bench were clearly illustrated as instruction to shape given pushed Meridian as they now started to assert and take control of the game.

Defensive performance from Emmanuel Oweyemi was superb today as he dealt with most that was thrown his way. Meridian’s midfield was again solid, a rock controlling the patterns of play with great wide support from Dorian Smith & Junior James.

The tireless energy of Meridian’s forward eventually paid dividends on the 14 minute as a poor back pass from the visitors defence resulted in the goalkeeper hesitating before deciding to retrieve the ball and eventually bringing down Jamie Humphris, PENALTY. The same player stepped up without qualm and despatched with purpose, 2-1.

At this stage it was no more than Meridian deserved and due to the hard work carried out it resulted in Meridian’s third goal with neat work and ball possession from Dean Macdonald interchanging a delightful move with Dorian Smith netting low and hard pass the goalkeepers right on the 30 minute, 3-1.

Meridian moving from one side to the other moved up the gears comfortably and sealed the 1st half performance with a great passing move initiated by Chris Hubbard from midfield into Jamie Humphris and receiving the return to score with no nonsense on the 44th minute, 4-1.

Knowing that Crockenhill would not lie down and come out fighting, Meridian continued with their game plan not to concede which has been evident in the last six fixtures.

The game was now in no doubt Meridian’s but it this was not finished as energy levels grew and concentration increased. With all the players playing their part a superb well taken hat trick with great pattern of plays with assists from Gurdy Tamna, Dorian Smith & Jamie Humphris allowed Ryan Mark to score the quickest hat trick in the Kent Invicta League in eight minutes on 70, 75 & 78.

The performance capped off a very positive end to the season and one that was absolutely well deserved with recognition going to the management & players, well done!
