Meridian Rue Missed Chances With Dominant Display !!

As the Easter Bank Holiday weekend starts Meridian welcome Orpington FC as part of a busy two day fixture schedule on both bank holidays.

Meridian knowing that this weekend is a six pointer started with focus and concentration as improved passing and movement was tough for the visitors to handle.

A constant barrage of attacks eventually took its toll on the away team as on the 15th minute a sublime move which saw the frailties of the away defence exposed as Jamie Humphris slotted in an inch perfect pass for Dorian Smith who netted with a very confident finish.

Meridian continued to dominate throughout the half but it was only on the 25th minute a lapse of ball retention in midfield allowed the opposition back into the game as a fortuitous which can be only described as a “toe punt” was unleashed from 25 yards turned the 1st half in the favour of Orpington.

Meridian disgruntled, failed to react even though the goal was against the run of play and the visitors further doubled their lead within eight minutes on the 33rd minute with another error from Meridian, 1-2.

Again the game was poised as the second half progressed, there was only one team in this as Meridian constantly carved out great patterns of play with a better performance only be to be let down by the final end product time and time again.

The icing was on the cake for the visitors as Meridian attacked with vigour to achieve the target set as Daniel Twin rose above all from a Meridian corner with a clear header targeted at the goal only to be cleared off the knee by a Meridian player on the 80th minute.

Orpington clearly relieved as they were outplayed in a vast amount of the whole game but credit to them as they came to Meridian and carried out their own task well. Today was a case of “you keeping knocking but you can’t come in” as Meridian rue this missed opportunity.

Meridian clearly not satisfied as this fixture was a huge importance to achieve the points target set in the remaining games of the season.

We move on and forward to Bank Holiday fixture away to Kent Football Utd at VCD Athletic ground KO 3pm, where Meridian will look to the correct the result of today.
