Meridian's Application Just Not There Today!

Meridian welcomed today Bridon Ropes our co tenants and a local derby with the winners taking the bragging rights if the result is right.

Credit must go to the grounds man at the Meridian Sports & Social Club for the tireless work he had carried out in order for this fixture to go ahead the surface looked immaculate.

Meridian started with attitude and focus with energy in abundance to which the opposition struggled to contain Meridian’s play.

Chances created were looking good with the inclusion of Jamie Humphris who was always busy hassling and stretching the Bridon defence.Coupled with a stern display in Meridian’s defence and midfield, Meridian looked comfortable and looking to improve and push forward from last week’s disappointing result.

It was only on the 28 minute when one of the very few opportunities created by the opposition resulted in a penalty award for an extremely ridiculous offence committed by the midfielder, which was evidently put away, 0-1.

This fixture being a local derby saw its fair share of tackles and misdemeanours, with the official out with the cards without hesitation. It would have been applauded if a little common sense prevailed in some of the decisions that were carried out for all to see.

Meridian went into the break a goal down and then refocused on the job at hand.

It was still Meridian’s game but poor decision making and ball retention coupled with mind boggling mistakes cost Meridian the game with well taken goals from the opposition on the 55 & 78 minute.

Congratulations to the opposition who applied themselves with simplicity as it was not difficult with Meridian being generous in gifts.

This was not same performance level applied as the last 6 games played which was expected. The management clearly not satisfied with the application of all on the pitch today which was communicated in no uncertain terms.

On his return back in the UK the Chairman was looking into the positives of the game with some individual performances pleasing to the eye, however without a shadow of a doubt Meridian’s management now focus and look to forward to the return leg of the Woodstock Park away fixture next week in order to start from the basics and an improved level of performance with all players playing for their positions.
