Meridian's Quality Shines Through !!

Meridian have been quietly doing there business on and off the field bringing in new quality arrivals into the squad and a major reshuffle of the whole setup in the last four weeks.

Today was a six pointer as far as the club were concerned. This message could not have been put across to the players any stronger as all knew what the result today truly meant.

We a renewed focus and attitude Meridian went about their business with one of the best first half performance seen this season.

Controlled passing, vision and forward penetration was the order of the half has the opposition did not really know what hit them.

Debutants Stuart Harte & Dean Carpenter were an instant hit has they controlled and their positions exceptionally well creating chances for the team. This was evident has on the 15 minute a corner awarded to Meridian was taken by Darren Flaherty with a crafted ball delivered to the edge of the penalty box where up stepped Harte who slotted his great shot to the right of the goalkeeper from 20 yard with composure, 1-0.

Meridian moved on and did not let the opposition rest as players hurried, pressured and made the opposition make the mistakes that created the second goal on the 27th minute with a good shot from 25 yards from Ronnie Bonsra which took a slight deflection. However, Meridian did not concern themselves with how this went in as all knew that the team deserved the luck which had not been evident all season, 2-0.

The opposition clearly out of their depth, struggled has Meridian took the game to them creating several chances with every forward momentum and again on the 40th minute created one of the best moves of the half down the left with sweeping play, passing and with a quality delivery the perfect cross has Dean Carpenter rose above all from 10 yards and planted his header firmly with power and precision only to hit the cross bar leaving the opposition relieved as this would have been clearly game over for them.

Second half was a quick baptism of fire where you cannot rely on any kind of lead but learn to see a game out to the end with a professional approach.

Credit to the opposition who got two quick goals on the 50th & 63rd minutes which woke the home team who knew that the fight is now back on.

Meridian faltered slightly but eventually got back to their rhythm and on track again creating chance after chance, and again the opposition this time defended well along with their goalkeeper making some key saves to keep them in the game.

Full time 2-2 draw was not the result Meridian had wanted has this did feel like a loss and three points dropped.

Conclusion:

Looking on the positives the team is growing and getting stronger with each fixture, with quality and hardworking team ethics and finally the start of a long road forward to achieving our goals!

Man of the match was very close affair as there was some great performances made today by several Meridian players, but today’s winner is Dean Carpenter who shined, worked extremely hard for his teammates and most importantly played with a smile and really lookked like he was enjoying himself, well done Deano!

Meridian now renews their focus and concentration onto next week’s away fixture, to which all at the club know is a massive game against Crown Alexander.
