Performance Outshines The Result !

Meridian FC welcomed title chasers Phoenix Sports today, knowing that a result for Meridian would only be suffice.

Preparation for this fixture had been a week long affair and it was Phoenix who were out of the blocks first as Meridian were asleep in the first 10 minutes and conceded two extremely poor goals even though controlling the pattern of play.

The opposition ahead, thinking the game was going to be a wrought were quickly brought down to earth as they struggled to cope with Meridian’s passing and open play.

Meridian created chances but just could not convert time and again with the opposition keeper making several crucial saves.

It was not until the 30 minute when the game took a change as a good through ball from the Meridian midfield was collected by the forward but was saved by the keeper. His heroics took a severe battering as both players clattered each other which seemed to push Meridian to the next gear.

Two nil down it was Meridian’s own doing but they were not fazed by the score line or the opposition in front of them.

Meridian pushed for the goals and completely took control of the second half has the opposition looked very ordinary and seemed to lack the fitness to cope with the pace of this fixture.

Meridian looking were very positive but a chance break by the opposition in the 75 minute resulted in over confident defending and allowed Phoenix to slot in their third completely against the run of play.

Although this game was marred by an ugly incident in the 80 minute involving the opposition, Meridian will not let this overshadow the performance by the players and the way they conducted and played as a unit supporting each other throughout the game.

Judging by the past performances in recent weeks all the title chasing teams know they have been in a game whenever they play and visit Meridian FC as our motto states "If you are the best, then make sure that you are" as Belief is Everything.
