Meridian suffered a poor defeat to struggling Staplehurst. Although missing some key players and lacking on the bench certainly didn't help. The team were really poor first half. Although they could have taken the lead when Roy- macauley found himself in on goal but saw his effort blocked by the advancing keeper. Just a few minutes later Meridian gave the ball away in midfield and twice fumbled challenges allowing Monarchs striker to run clear and score.
Slightly improved in the second ,the home side rarely threatened but Meridian lacked any ideas going forward and created very little. Free kicks and corners poorly delivered and left unchallenged. Darrell Thompson provided one glimmer of hope, his shot was parried away and Roy macauleys follow up was blocked out of play with the Ref giving a goalkick????
Meridian did put the ball in the net on time but inevitably it was ruled offside.
A 1-0 defeat that should have alarm bells ringing and On this form MVP will now be looking nervously over their shoulders at the teams below them!!! as they look to avoid being sucked into the relegation dogfight.
